Howl, founded in 2013, is an online literary arts magazine run and operated by dedicated, passionate, and talented students of Deltona High School under the supervision and support of Dylan Emerick-Brown. Howl is dedicated to fostering newer generations of professional writers, editors, publishers, and graphic designers through hands-on experience and assistance from real publishers, editors, and writers at the top of their respective fields. We also have a passion for making a difference in our community and beyond through fundraising for Florida elementary and middle schools for their literary endeavors, putting together writing workshops, creating scholarships, organizing events, and more. Our editors/students have interviewed Pulitzer Prize winners, Poet Laureates, Nobel Laureates, acclaimed authors, and others involved in various aspects of the literary arts.
Mission Statement: Howl is the vanguard of education in the publishing of the literary arts for the perennial generations. Our goals are to publish great literature from around the world, promote the literary arts in our own community, and all the while educate young writers and editors to carry the "lit" torch into the 21st century.
We live by the quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery, literature's little prince: "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give them orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."
